Getting CopyVisible working.

Most first-run trouble is Screen Recording. The rest is a hotkey and a menu-bar extra.

Grant Screen Recording

CopyVisible reads the text out of a region you select, and copies it to your clipboard. Everything stays on this Mac. macOS will ask once:

  1. Open CopyVisible. The onboarding window explains the ask before it appears.
  2. Click Enable Screen Recording, then allow CopyVisible in the system prompt.
  3. Relaunch when asked. macOS only hands the grant to a process that already had it at launch.

If the prompt already happened and you declined, CopyVisible cannot bring it back. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, switch CopyVisible on, then relaunch.

Hotkeys

ActionDefault
Capture text⇧⌘2
Capture with AI⌥⇧⌘2

Both are rebindable in Settings. ⇧⌘3 and ⇧⌘4 are never used as defaults — those belong to macOS screenshots. Esc cancels a capture in progress.

AI actions

Summarise, Translate, Fix OCR, and Explain code run on-device with Foundation Models. They need macOS 26 and a usable system language model. On macOS 15 the actions stay visible and are labelled “requires macOS 26”. Capture, detection, history, and paste-as all work without them.

Uninstalling

Quit CopyVisible from the menu bar, then move CopyVisible.app to the Trash. History lives in the app container and goes with it. Turn off Screen Recording for CopyVisible in System Settings if you want the grant gone too.
